Drew is 3!

Happy Birthday to my sweetest little blessing, Drew!!!!

Drew's birthday morning, January 26th, we woke up in the hospital and expected to be there the entire day.  It was day 6 of a week long EEG stay.  I'm not sure if it was a bday gift, or curse, but he had a fairly big seizure that morning.  Curse because I never want to see him have a seizure, but blessing because it meant that they caught all the data they needed and we were able to come home a day early.  We got to spend his bday evening at home with hamburgers (his request) and cupcakes!  Mimi and Pops were there to celebrate too!  They helped us out tremendously during Drew's hospital stay -- Thank you, Mimi and Pops!

My mom made this!  She took the pictures of each letter and also painted the turtle on the end.  Love it!
3rd bday cupcake and bday banners.  The top banner is from the hospital staff and the bottom one was made by Matt and I.  Poor Drew's parents made a banner for his hospital door that said, "Hail Seizer!  Happy Birthday, Drew!"  I've never seen a neurologist belly laugh like I did on Drew's bday morning!
Mimi painted this too.  Drew is in the turtles class at school this year.  Love it - she's so talented!
Since we came home from the hospital ON his birthday, we didn't have the cupcakes decorated in advance.  So we let Drew put his own icing on and he was just as happy.
The Loot
3 Fleas
Good pic of what his hair looked like with all the glue they left in it!  This took weeks to get out, even with acetone!!!  It is super heavy duty glue since it was a week long EEG.  For the regular EEGs they use a different glue that is much easier to get out.
Bday cupcake, glue in the hair, and hospital bracelets!

Here are some pics from our hospital stay --
We brought the Pack N play for Drew to sleep in because he is super hyper and there is NO way he would stay in a hospital bed on his own.  He's a wee bit too big for the PNP, but we made it work!  He had to keep his backpack either on his back, or right next to him the entire week.  It houses all the wires from the electrodes on his head and then consolidated everything into one wire that left the backpack and was tethered to the wall.  He was literally on a leash for 6 days and did not leave the hospital room even once during that time.  FUN FOR ALL!
This gives you an idea of our set up.  Drew had just this one room to play in for the entire 6 days!  Child Life was great and brought tons of toys in, and a good friend, Arlene, sent Drew a care package of fun new toys to keep him entertained!
Putting the electrodes on.  This is actually quite misleading.  He fought with every fiber in his being for the first hour of the electrode application and eventually wore himself out.  Let's just say this boy has made a name for himself amongst the EEG techs.
Sweetest boy ever!!!

I ditto Mimi, what a rough way to celebrate his birthday. I pray that life gets a whole lot easier for him this year and the same for his parents! Luckily - he's got the best parents in the world! Happy Birthday, Drew - wish we could have been there to help you celebrate!
