Car Seats

Ok, experienced parents -- Where is the best place to look for safety information on convertible carseats? I guess I should start with this question: Is a convertible carseat the next step after the infant carrier? What is the difference between Convertible, 3-in-1, and Combination? We still love Drew's infant carrier, and it goes up to 32 lbs, so we are good for awhile. I'm just trying to start my research for his big boy car seat!

Any tips, suggestions, reviews are much appreciated!

Thanks!

No suggestions from me. (I'm not quite to that stage yet, ha ha.) However, I remember how exciting it was when my nephew got to face the front in the car! Drew is getting close to being there!

Alrighty... here's my 2 cents:

1. Yes, a convertible seat (that faces backwards or forwards) is the next step after the infant carrier. The American Academy of Pediatrics recently changed their recommendation and they now recommend that your baby faces backwards until age 2. You are a rule follower, so you will probably heed that advice. We switched Drew at 19 months, because he was huge and his knees were squished up to his chin. But, I felt guilty about it.

2. They are in their convertible seat FOREVER! Clayton was 4 1/2 when we finally switched him to a booster.

3. The brand Britax always gets really good safety ratings. They are expensive, though. We splurged knowing that we would use the seat for almost 4 years. That's how we justified the cost.

4. Babies R Us let us stack 2 coupons when we bought Drew's Britax. We used a coupon that was 15% off of car seats and a 20% off of a single purchase. So, we saved around $80 or so.

That's all that I have to share. Good luck finding a safe seat for your munchkin!

Love you!
