Houston Zoo

 Drew's two favorite parts of the Houston Zoo...the Merry-Go-Round and the Splash Pad!  We got a family pass so we plan to spend quite a bit of time here this year!

Honeymoon's Over

We made it 4 weeks seizure free and now the honeymoon is over. Drew had a seizure today. Please keep praying that this new med is going to stop his seizures completely!!! These last 4 weeks have been like a completely different life for us...and it has been soooo nice!!!

Anniversary Dinner

Matt's cousin and aunt are visiting so we had some great babysitters in town for our anniversary. We were able to go out to a super fancy Italian restaurant to celebrate! After dinner the waiter brought out a big bowl of fruit that had "Happy Anniversary" written on the edge of the bowl in chocolate icing.

We asked him to snap a pic of us and this was the result. Us with a bowl of fruit.

Awesome.

The chocolate writing was obviously not an important detail. ;)

10 Year Anniversary!

Hard to believe this was TEN years ago!!  May 17, 2003

2 Years

It's been 2 years since Drew's first ever seizure - of course it was on Friday the 13th of 2011.  We stay inside under the covers now anytime Friday the 13th rolls around - haha!  It's been a crazy roller coaster, but we are still ticking off the days of being seizure free on the new meds.  Please keep praying that this is the miracle drug for Drew and he can get on with his life without these pesky seizures interrupting.

2 weeks!

2 weeks SEIZURE FREE, Thank the Lord!!!   So far, so good on the new medication :)  Keep those prayers coming!!

Love this kid!  Here's Drew's new buzz cut.  We learned our lesson about the EEG glue last time in January, so before we went for his most recent EEG we buzzed his hair.  It made a huge difference!  We spent 4 days in the hospital again collecting more data and the doctors are switching his seizure meds.  We're in the difficult category of epilepsy now, so we are praying this new medication works.  60% of patients have their seizures controlled within the first 2 meds they try.  We are in the 40% where that didn't happen.  Out of the 40%, 5-20% will have their seizures controlled.  So there is still hope, but our odds keep getting slimmer.  Pray that Drew is in the 5-20% of the 40%!!!!

A LOT has happened in this little guy's life over the last year.  He's such a trooper.  Love him!!!!

March & Early April

 Drew was invited to an egg hunt at a local nursing home where a friend's grandma lives.  He had a ball (egg?)!

 He also really enjoyed a birthday party at a bounce house.  I made sure Matt came because it's a WORK OUT!  Sounds like a daddy job to me!

 We tried a low carb diet for a few months to see if it would help control the seizures, so poor Drew got broccoli and olives for lunch instead of pizza!  Crazy kiddo didn't mind a bit, though.  He LOVES broccoli and olives!!  The diet didn't seem to help, so he gets to eat fun stuff again - yay for fun foods, boo for not helping seizures!  We just tried a low carb diet - not the ketogenic diet.  I believe that's still an option for us later on if we can't find a medication that will work for him.  Right after this pic, Drew fell straight backward off this chair onto the tile and got a huge goose egg on his head :(

The big animals weren't awake yet, so we didn't see much.  Then, in keeping with the spirit of things, Drew had a seizure and we had to go home early.

Believe it or not, this kid actually stopped what he was doing, looked at the camera, and smiled on command for this pic :)  This cutie has had a rough weekend, but hopefully he's on the mend.  He's loving reading his puppy book while wearing his puppy jammies. We enjoyed having Mimi and Pops visit this weekend!  More pics to come...

Yer Mama Might Be A Redneck If...

The other day I gave Drew some milk in a cup that could spill, so I told him he had to drink it on the tile floor in the kitchen and couldn't take it out in the living room on the carpet.  I asked if he understood me and he nodded yes.  Thinking he was just nodding to appease me, I said, "Do you know what tile means?"  He nodded again.  I said, "Ok, show me the tile."

He immediately walked over to the oven and grabbed the dish TOWEL.

Yup, I'm a redneck.  Poor kid.
